SA Law were delighted to sponsor the annual Watford FC End of Season Awards Evening.
The new Player of the Season trophy, named in honour of former manager Graham Taylor OBE and sponsored by SA Law, went to Sebastian Prödl.
The commanding Austrian has been the rock at the back during a difficult Premier League season and was a worthy winner to join the pantheon of Watford FC greats.
Many regard the Graham Taylor OBE Player of the Season Award to be the most prestigious award of the evening as it is voted for by the fans, many of whom travel home and away to support their team.
Prödl won the fans’ appreciation after making 32 league starts, 13 more than during his first year at Vicarage Road.
But it was a tight affair as goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, last year’s winner, was beaten into second place by just 24 votes.
Gomes was recognised by his teammates, however, who named him Players' Player of the Season. He also won the award for Best Display of the Season for his superhuman efforts in the 1-0 away win at West Brom during which he saved not one but two penalties.
The awards were presented in front of 600 guests, the first team squad, club staff, fans and sponsors in Wembley Stadium’s iconic Bobby Moore suite on Monday evening.
Other awards went to Roberto Pereyra, whose piledriver against Leicester in November was selected as Goal of the Season and 18-year-old Dion Pereira who was named Young Player of the Season.
The Best Team Performance was the 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates stadium in January, while Prödl picked up his second award for Individual Performance of the Season, for his decisive match up with Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Another honour went to former player Tommy Smith who was inducted into the Golden Boys' Hall of Fame. The fans favourite made almost 300 appearances for the club between 1997 and 2003 and won two Player of the Season Awards.
