Updated Vento Bands from 6 April 2026

Updated Vento Bands from 6 April 2026 | Thursday 9 April 2026 | 1 min read

From 6 April 2026, Employment Tribunals will apply updated Vento bands when assessing compensation for injury to feelings in discrimination and certain detriment claims. These bands guide the level of non-pecuniary awards and are intended to promote consistency, fairness and proportionality across cases.

For claims presented on or after 6 April 2026, the Vento bands are as follows:

  •  Lower band: £1,300 to £12,600 for less serious cases, such as isolated or one-off incidents where the injury to feelings is modest.
  •  Middle band: £12,600 to £37,700 for cases that do not merit an award in the upper band, typically involving more prolonged or serious conduct than the lower band.
  •  Upper band: £37,700 to £62,900 for the most serious cases, usually where there is a significant and lasting impact on the claimant.

In the most exceptional cases, tribunals may make awards exceeding £62,900.

Why the bands have moved

The updated figures reflect inflation and the tribunals’ ongoing focus on fair and proportionate remedies while considering the seriousness and impact of the wrongdoing in each case.
