We are proud to be a part of the St Albans Half Marathon 2021

Mon 5th Jul 2021

Following a turbulent 15 months of uncertainty and various lockdowns, it is great to finally see the return of events! We are delighted to have been a part of the St Albans Half Marathon 2021. This year SA Law not only sponsored the event, but we also had a team braving the 28-degree heat and taking place in either the half marathon or the 5K.

Supporting local organisations

The St Albans Half Marathon, which has been running for 39 years (minus 2020) is a community focused event that aims to raise money for local charities and organisations as well as being a great day for all the family. This year’s chosen charity partner was Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline which is a brilliant local organisation offering confidential, free, support and signposting services for anyone affected by domestic abuse.

With a goal to reduce the environmental impact of the day, instead of offering finisher t-shirts this year, the event organisers have promised to plant a tree in a sustainable forest in the UK for every £100 earnt from entry fees. Thanks to all participants, 100 trees have been planted.

Congratulations to all participants

This year, we had three participants running the half marathon as part of Team SA Law. All three finished with spectacular times under two hours. Our fastest runner finished in just 1 hour 21 minutes, which was 18th position of all half marathon participants! We also had six people as part of Team SA Law taking part in the 5k race which was a more relaxed race around the picturesque Verulamium Park. Team SA Law’s quickest 5K runner finished in a very respectable 23 minutes.

Despite the mini heatwave on the day, all runners got to enjoy an ice lolly after the race and wear their medals with pride.

As well as the runners, we also had the support of colleagues, friends, and family on the day. Marilyn Bell, Head of SA Law’s Family department welcomed runners and offered wishes of good luck, which set the day off to a positive start.

Looking forward to 2022

This year unfortunately the VIP area, Runners Village, Fun Run and Stage were removed from the event to make space to ensure social distancing and a Covid safe day. Fingers crossed this is a one off and next year, which will be the events 40th anniversary, the event can be bigger and better than ever!
