Mark Chiverton Senior Associate Solicitor | Family Law Team

Expertise

I am a family lawyer who guides clients, including high-net-worth individuals, through separation and divorce with clear, strategic advice and a calm, measured approach.

I specialise in supporting families and individuals through the difficulties caused by relationship breakdown, particularly the complex financial issues that arise, and I also advise on family law matters affecting children. I take the time to understand what matters most, quickly identify the key issues, and cut through complexity to provide decisive, practical guidance. My role is to reduce uncertainty, contain conflict, and deliver clarity at every stage, enabling clients to move forward with confidence.

I have a particular focus on resolving complex matrimonial finance cases, including those involving property portfolios, family businesses, pensions, trusts, investments, inherited wealth, offshore assets, and intricate income structures. I regularly advise high-net-worth individuals where detailed asset tracing, liquidity challenges, tax considerations, and nuanced disclosure issues arise. I work closely with clients to untangle the financial consequences of separation and to secure outcomes that are robust, commercially sound, and aligned with their wider objectives.

Having practised in Hong Kong, I bring a valuable international perspective to my work, including experience in cross-border financial disputes, jurisdictional issues, and international arrangements for children.

An increasing part of my practice involves resolving disputes outside the court process. I am a strong advocate of Arbitration and other forms of Non-Court Dispute Resolution mechanisms, which often provide a faster, more discreet, and more tailored alternative to traditional litigation. Where court proceedings are necessary, I ensure clients are strategically prepared, confidently advised, and effectively represented throughout. My focus is always on minimising conflict, reducing stress, and maintaining control of the process.

Supporting people through periods of acute difficulty defines both my professional and personal life. Alongside my legal practice, I volunteer as an Advanced Community First Responder with the East of England Ambulance NHS Trust, attending medical emergencies within my community. The calm judgement, composure, and reassurance required in that role mirror the qualities I bring to every family law matter.
