What you’ll do

SA Law’s employment team is ranked in both the Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500 legal directories. Their exceptional skillset and commercial acumen make them a highly prized resource for both organisations and senior executives.

Human Resource professionals and business leaders rely on the team for day-to-day guidance, strategic employment advice and clarity with a human touch in challenging situations. Senior executives seek out our advice when they are looking to further their careers or settle a dispute with their employer.

As a Principal Associate in the team, you will advise a broad range of clients and contribute to the ongoing development and expansion of the team. Areas of work include the following.

  • Employment Law: Provide expert guidance on all aspects of employment law, including contracts, policies, disciplinary and grievance procedures, and day-to-day HR queries.
  • Contentious Matters: Represent clients in employment disputes and tribunal claims, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, and redundancy disputes.
  • Strategic Projects: Guide clients through large-scale restructuring, TUPE transfers, and workforce planning for corporate clients.
  • Client Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, HR professionals, and senior executives, acting as a trusted advisor on complex issues.
  • Business Development: Contribute to the growth of the Employment team through networking, thought leadership, and developing new client opportunities.

About you

You are an experienced lawyer (ideally 10+ years post-qualification experience) seeking:

  • a balanced, high-quality work environment; and
  • a role where your expertise is valued, and you can make a tangible impact.

You’ll bring with you:

  • strong technical expertise in employment law (both contentious and non-contentious);
  • a proven track record of handling complex tribunal litigation and advisory work;
  • ability to develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients and referrers, with some evidence of a proven track record in generating work and a client following (with potential for advancement and promotion based on the level of following);
  • excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills;
  • commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving; and
  • exceptional communication skills (written & oral), capable of interacting with clients, experts, and counsel.
