Cricket Update: SA Law v Hillier Hopkins
On Wednesday 21st July, SA Law succumbed to a comprehensive mauling by Hillier Hopkins in the final cricket match of the season.
Having elected to field, the skipper was soon left to regret his decision as the top 5 batsmen from Hilliers took to their tasks with great gusto.
Rik and Sam were all on the receiving end of some aggressive batting, with fours and sixes coming at far too great a pace. Simon and Kevin attempted, and failed, to slow the run rate although admittedly were up against a stiff task. Hayley’s fine throwing arm in the field, and Daryl’s dazzling footwork in his smart blue trainers failed to stem the flow of runs on this occasion. Such was the batting, that there was considerable concern within the SA Law ranks of the danger being posed to their cars in the adjacent car park by flying cricket balls. Hillier Hopkins amassed 177 from their 20 overs, representing the highest total that SA Law have ever encountered.
In credit to the home team, Sam put up a brave fight and scored runs at a decent pace before retiring on reaching 25. The skipper arrived at the crease and managed a few lusty blows before attempting one quick single too many and getting run out, with trigger fingered umpire Mr Moore in no doubt as to his fate. Gary scored some useful runs before being comprehensively bowled. Rik then scored at a reasonable if insufficient rate, before he, clearly angered by Nathan’s attempt to run him out the previous over, returned the compliment by leaving Nathan halfway down the wicket, run out for 17. After Rik was dismissed, in strode Simon and Kevin to save the day. Sadly, both left just as quickly as they arrived, with Kevin improving on his first ball duck 2 weeks ago with a third ball duck, and Simon worsening his record by falling first ball for a golden quacker. Daryl gamely tried to escalate the scoring, but the task proved too great with SA Law falling 47 runs short of their target.
