Business profile: Gill Garrett
Publication: Hertfordshire Life
Hertfordshire Life interview Gill Garrett, the director of finance and business support at SA Law.
How did you get started in business?
One of my first jobs was in banking. I always had a mathematical mind. I started working in the legal sector when I joined Pictons Solicitors in 1983. My role involved accounts and HR. During my 22 years there, the number of offices grew from five to seven and we completed four mergers, which brought challenges. In 2005, I moved from Pictons to the newly-formed SA Law. I became a partner in 2009 – one of the first non-legal partners in the UK.
What’s your motivation?
My motivation to join SA Law was to be part of a business from scratch; that gave the opportunity to develop my role. My priority is to ensure the teams are motivated and to provide opportunities to grow, which is why I’ve been so proud to launch the Legal Apprenticeship scheme, which welcomes school leavers to join SA Law after completing A Levels and start a careers in law in a supportive, rewarding environment.
