New 'Vento' bands following consultation

In July 2017 the presidents of the Employment Tribunals issued a joint judicial consultation on the proposed changes to the Vento guidelines (please see our article “Presidents propose uplift of the Vento Bands”)

A response to the Vento Bands Consultation has now been released which sets out the new bands which will apply to any claims issued on or after 11 September 2017, as follows:

  • Less serious cases (lower band) - £800 - £8,400
  • Serious cases (middle band) – £8,400 to £25,200
  • Most serious cases (upper band) – £25,200 to £42,000, with exceptionally cases exceeding £42,000

These bands will be formally set out in joint Presidential Guidance to be issued on 6 September 2017, and it will be reviewed in March 2018 and every year after that.
